Diversity of Woody Species and Biomass Carbon Stock in Response to Exclosure Age in Central Dry Lowlands of Ethiopia

Objective: Empirical evidence on the potential of area exclosure in restoration severely degraded lands is crucially important. Thus, a study was conducted to examine influence age vegetation structure, diversity, and biomass carbon stock central dry lowland Ethiopia. Methods: Exclosures 5, 15, >20 years old, adjacent open grazing land were selected. Data collected using 20 × m sampling quadrats which laid along parallel transect lines. Results: The result showed that 17 woody species represent 9 families recorded at exclosures lands. Shannon-Wiener ( H' ) diversity index ranged from 0.74 (open land) 2.12 (middle exclosure). Shannon evenness E higher middle (0.80). Woody basal tree density significantly p < 0.05) increased with increasing age. Aboveground varied 12.60 68.61 Mg ha -1 Similarly, aboveground (AGB) stocked (32 old (31 ). Conclusion: This indicated exclusion can restore sequester more atmospheric dioxide biomass. Therefore, areas be restored into promising stage through use management.
